RHP Zach Neal delivered an impressive start for Sacramento on Monday, allowing just 2 baserunners on a pair of singles while walking none and striking out 3 over 5 innings of work to earn his 3rd win for the River Cats. Neal also had to endure a 67-minute rain delay in the middle of the 4th inning before returning to the mound. RHP Tucker Healy gave up 1 run in 1 inning of relief, while RHP Paul Smyth pitched 2 perfect innings, and RHP Jeremy McBryde tossed a scoreless 9th for Sacramento. Designated hitter Josh Whitaker homered for the second straight night, while third baseman Jose Martinez had 3 hits, and first baseman Daric Barton drove in 3 runs for the River Cats. Meanwhile, shortstop Andy Parrino was optioned back to Sacramento, while infielder Colin Walsh was placed on the disabled list. And River Cats outfielder Shane Peterson was named the Pacific Coast League Player of the Week.

RHP Nate Long had a solid start for the RockHounds, allowing 2 runs while striking out 7 over 6 innings of work, but he still ended up taking his 6th loss on Monday. RHP Blake Hassebrock gave up 4 runs in 1 inning of relief, while RHP Ryan Dull pitched a perfect 8th, and outfielder-turned-pitcher-turned-outfielder Jeremy Barfield returned to the mound to strike out a pair in a scoreless 9th. Barfield started the game in right field, going 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts, while third baseman Jefry Marte singled and doubled in the loss. Meanwhile, Midland first baseman Max Muncy was named the Texas League Player of the Week, and outfielder Chad Oberacker was reassigned to the RockHounds from Stockton.

RHP Josh Bowman turned in a strong start for Stockton on Monday, allowing just 1 run on 3 hits over 5 innings of work to earn his 3rd win, while RHP Tim Alderson gave up 3 runs over 4 innings of relief in his first appearance for the Ports. Third baseman Renato Nunez had 3 hits and homered for the second straight night, while right fielder Jaycob Brugman singled, walked, tripled in a run and scored twice, and left fielder Zeke DeVoss had a pair of hits, walked and drove in a run in his first game for Stockton. DeVoss, the Cubs 3rd-round draft pick in 2011, and Alderson, the Giants 1st-round pick in 2007, were both signed by the A’s as minor league free agents and assigned to Stockton, while outfielder Chad Oberacker was reassigned to the RockHounds and catcher Ryan Lipkin was placed on the disabled list. And Ports pitcher Chris Lamb was named the California League Pitcher of the Week.

Starter Dylan Covey was a little shaky for the Snappers, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits over 6 innings of work to take his 9th loss on Monday. Third baseman Luis Baez hit a 2-run homer for Beloit, while outfielder Tyler Marincov, who was named the Midwest League Player of the Week, singled and doubled in the Snappers’ only other run of the game.

Third baseman Jose Brizuela singled and homered, while designated hitter Ryan Huck singled and doubled, and center fielder J.P. Sportman went 0 for 4 in his first game for the Lake Monsters after being promoted from the Arizona League.

17-year-old RHP Jesus Zambrano allowed 5 runs, 4 earned, over 5 innings of work to take his 2nd loss, while 5th-round draft pick Heath Fillmyer gave up 1 run in 1 inning of relief in his first appearance for the A’s. Second baseman Jesus Lopez doubled and drove in a pair of runs, while third baseman A.J. Kubala and catcher Iolana Akau both doubled in a run, and 5-foot-7 center fielder Rodolfo Penalo singled, stole a base and scored twice in his first appearance since being promoted from the Dominican League.
